The Opening Event at Bangsar Art Gallery was simple and nice. A STAUNCH supporter of local art and artists, Toh Puan Mahani Idris Daim has come and launched the ceremony beautifully with her short and meaningful speech.
After launching, all artists gathered with the lovely VIP, together for a group hug.. i mean, pic.
I entered 2 paintings for the art exhibition:
The old man pointing out his finger is my father-in-law. The painting is entitled, “TEA-TALK-TIME”. For some reasons, I really enjoy painting him. He has a character of his own that’s unique. Most of the time, he looks quite stern and quiet. He loves collecting stamps, newspaper cuttings, cigarette boxes, money from different countries, mugs, albums, bottles/ containers.. well, almost everything that has different shapes and sizes. You could say that he’s in the world of his own when he’s in his corner of the house with an old typewriter and a scissors and a glue. He’s happiest when his children and grand children were around. And one of the rare times that he talked a lot was when we were having tea.. so, that’s why I painted the moment above.
But when Toh Puan Mahani saw the painting, she pointed at it and said, ” Look at this fat man. This is not good.. These kuihs are not healthy for him.. Could lead to diabetes,”.. and the statement was followed by a few laughter and chuckles.
Haha. Then I thought, hmm.. I’ve never looked at the painting that way before.. You could somehow see the irony or morale of the story presented in it. It’s just very interesting to know what your viewers felt or thought about your artworks.
The next thing I knew, she bought that painting.
What more could I say about the day except everything else was just fine :), thank you.
P/S: You could read more about my 2nd painting above entitled “RAMBUTAN-TIME IN KIJAL ,” in my earlier post: https://yartstik.wordpress.com/2010/02/10/a-quick-sketch-2/
